So lets Begin!!
Some Stats to start with
We got lists from 12 different People, 4 more than last year
There were a total of 232 different/unique films! That's 89 more than the last time!
128 films were only present on a single list, 55% - nearly the same percent as last time
39 were only on 2 lists 16.8 % - again, exactly the same as last time, make of this what you will
There are only 26 Animated Films in the entire list, 7 more than last time, it remains to be seen how well they fared though
12 Hindi films, 4 less than last time, and even among these few, 1 was a co-Japan production! Let's hope no media-person gets word of this lest we be labelled anti-nationalist
13 Japanese films, more than double the last time and more than the number of Hindi films! All but one of these were animated
22 Films from last time didn't receive any vote this time. All of these had received only one vote last time. The highest ranking among them was Creed which had made it to number 60 on the overall list last time with a single 8th rank vote.

Another fact
A Film had to be on at least 3 different lists to be within the top 50. Rank 50, in fact, was the highest a film with only 2 votes got to. The threshold for top 50 was 170 points.
One could still get into the top 100 with a single vote though. The highest a film with only one vote got was rank 71. That film was ranked 2nd in the sole list it was in. So look at your second ranks y'all and be very very afraid.

2 was the mode score overall, with 21 films scoring just 2 points. That means all of these were only on 1 list and ranked between 51-60
40 was a close second with 20 entries while 60 with 18 was third.
Btw, we already have 2 films with 2 votes making an appearance so down low. Dumb and Dumber and Django Unchained with 10 points each. This is due to abysmal average ranks. These were on two lists but at the very bottom of both of them. Their average ranks of 49 and 48 are respectively the tied worst and third worst on the list among films with 2 or more votes. Dumb and Dumber had achieved the same feat last time round too. Talk about consistency

Oh and an important point to note - Throughout the list there will be instances of a film with the same number of votes and better or equal average rank as another outscoring the other one. This is because of the scoring scheme that has been adopted this year that's giving different proportionate weight to different rank groups. For example a film that is ranked 1st on 1 list and 40 on another, and therefore having an average rank of 20.5, will score 120 points which will be more than the 110 scored by a film that ranks 16th on one list and 21st on another, and thus having a better average rank of 18.5. This is due to first rank, and the top 10 entirely, having been given more weightage than other ranks.

Ah, damn. That animation and that sci-fi plot... Definitely a superb film that deserves to be high up on anyone's list. Well, we'll come to see shortly how well it did without your vote... if it even made the list at all

Ah, btw the only film in a language other than English/Japanese/Hindi in the entire list, to the best of my knowledge, has already come up at position 206 - Drunken Master, a Hong Kong film starring Jackie Chan that's in Chinese, or more specifically Cantonese.
Edit: I realised later on that there's another film that's not in any of those three languages and but in the list. And pretty high up too.

Btw, if anybody else is wondering too... I have no idea either what Cocktail, of all the movies in the world, is doing here. Ask @Sagar1098 for his reasoning behind this.

A sad thing to notice for fans of animated films - 12 of the 26 animated films in the overall list are already out. Only 14 remain now. Will any be making it into the top 100 and top 50?
Also, 4 each of the 13 Japanese and 12 Hindi films are out too. The same question stands for them.

Btw, we have already had 1 HP Film on the list. Deathly Hallows part 2 at 198. All but one of the parts made it into the top 200. Any guesses on which one missed the list? And which one do you guys think will rank the highest, and just how high will it rank? Place your bets now.
No other series has that many parts on the list. But then few series even have that many parts. MCU does. How many from it made it into the list, I wonder. Civil War's already appeared at rank 190. And it's one of my favourites from the genre (didn't make my own list though). Did any surpass it? Only time will tell

I think Iron Man must be having a high rank considering it's critical appreciation.

Btw before we begin with the top 100, here are some stats and facts -
Of the 100 films 39 are pre-2000. While that's still not as high as I believe it ideally should be it's 13 more than last year. That's quite a lot of improvement. We people are getting cultured
The Oldest film on the list is from 1942 and it's on more than 1 list
The average year of the films in the top 100 is 1998. Also the year that most of us were born. Coincidence?
Also, that's 5 less than the 2003 last year. We are going in the right direction in my opinion
There are 3 films from the previous two years including only one from 2018
Also, there is a film from every decade from 1940s to 2010s, just like last year, Unlike last year though, when three of them were represented by only 1 film, all but one of them are represented by at least 3 films
There are at least 3 series which have all of their parts in the top 200. But is there any series with all its parts in the top 100?
Hindi films have definitely have had a far worse showing than last year with the number of films making it dropping from 13 to .....
I'll leave the fate of Japanese and Animated films for you to guess

Rank 98 (3-way-tie)
Phone Booth (2003)
Rank last year - DMI (didn't make it)
Score - 70
No. Of Lists - 1
Average Rank - 15
Rotten Tomatoes - 71%
Box Office - 97.8 M$
And thus our top 100 begins, with a 3 way tie. Phone Booth is an intense thriller that keeps you on the edge of your seat throughout its runtime. I still remember watching it at 2 in the night one winter night years ago when it literally kinda made me sweat. A very well done thriller that is almost entirely set within a phone booth and has very limited action and that still manages to work much better than the many mindless action flicks around. There's another film like that in the list, Locke. Where exactly though is the question.
This film didn't even make it to the list last year but managed to crack the top 100 this time couresy a single high ranking vote
Oh, it also has a hindi remake starring Irfan Khan and Sanjay Dutt - Knock Out (2010)... please do yourself a favour and never watch that.

No. 98
Way Back Home
Rank last year - 75 (-23)
Score - 70
No. Of Lists - 1
Average Rank - 15
For more info Contact Revant Gautam
Couldn't find anything about this. Even the guy who put it in his list can't find it online but insists it's a very good film that he watched once.
This is the first film yet that repeats into the top 100 from last year. Despite the same average rank and vote count as before its rank dropped 23 places showing just how much harder it was to make it high into the list this year.
Re: The Best Films of ALL TIME Countdown thread - 2018

Rank 98 (3-way-tie)
Troy (2004)
Rank last year - DMI (didn't make it)
Score - 70
No. Of Lists - 1
Average Rank - 15
Rotten Tomatoes - 54%
Box Office - 497 M$
And thus we arrive at the end of our 3 way tie. Personally speaking, I didn't really like the film much but one of you guys clearly saw something in it that I didn't. This is the first period drama and first rotten film on the top 100 yet
Re: The Best Films of ALL TIME Countdown thread - 2018
Mon Jun 11, 2018 10:57 pm
Rank 95 (3-way-tie)
Pan's Labyrinth (2006)
Rank last year - 66 (-29)
Score - 70
No. Of Lists - 1
Average Rank - 14
Rotten Tomatoes - 95%
Box Office - 83.25 M$
Only to be followed by another 3 way tie (don't worry these are only for a few more ranks). I recently saw this film. It's a wonderful blend of surrealistic visual fantasy and wartime drama, a horror fantasy done right. Described by RT as Alice in Wonderland for Grown Ups. The film is considered the magnum opus of Guillermo Del Toro who won the best director oscar this year for The Shape of Water a similar blend of real world and fantasy. This film was critically acclaimed when released with a 95 on RT coupled with an incredible 8.6 avg rating and a 98 on Metacritic

Average Rank - 14
Rotten Tomatoes - 85%
Box Office - 28.26 M$

Personal Comments
Paul Thomas Anderson is synonymous with brilliance when it comes to cinema. As a director he often pairs up with certain actors and gets the best out of them. for example with Daniel Day Lewis in There will be Blood and Phantom Thread. In the Master, considered one of his best works, he does the same with Joaquin Pheonix. Now I must be admit here that I haven't seen this film myself and so can not really say much about it. Its undisputable though that Paul Thomas Anderson is one of the best directors out there and that his films need to be watched more. Does he feature again on this list? We'll se in a short while. Meanwhile feel free to make your guesses
